Proven to be transferable and scalable, this framework of approach can be modified to meet further needs in career development, at either earlier school interaction or at a mid career initiatives. The primary drivers are focused equity and excellence in the New Zealand Health sector workforce.
To date, Programme Incubator has expanded through establishing agreements with individual District Health Boards. By observation, it is the rural based DHB’s that understand best, the issues facing rural New Zealand. This is reflected by the DHB’s that are participating (i.e. Tairawhiti, Northland, Taranaki, West Coast and Southern) and the need for these DHB’s to develop an appropriate future workforce capacity.
Programme Incubator provides a structured platform for DHB’s from which to address workforce development at secondary school level.
The programme brings together key staff who may otherwise never have the opportunity to share insights, success stories and hard-learned lessons – and gives them the chance to plan together and build partnerships for results.
Equity is key in this approach, as the main relationships are formed with staff from the very community that the school is based and alongside the structured approach and resourcing, relational capital is the main success in the interaction.
